Marlborough Rotary Club wins Judges’ Trophy at Labor Day Parade

The members of the Marlborough Rotary Club announce that they won the Judges’ Trophy their self-built float in the Marlborough Labor Day Parade.  The club has entered a float almost every year in the state's largest parade.

This year, the official parade theme was the “Spirit of Marlborough.”  In keeping with the parade theme, the club chose, “Marlborough Rotary Club – Part of the ‘Spirit of Marlborough’ Since 1922.”  In addition to many Rotary emblems and Balloons, the float featured a giant shoe, a computer, and two lively apples, the symbols of the City’s industries that appear on the club’s banner.

Building the float was a Rotary family affair.  Members who lent their talents, and time included Peggy Sheldon, President Dave Walton, Bonnie Doolin, Peggie Thorsen, Elaine McDonald, David Hecht, Molly Brodeur-Nesbitt, Chanson Nesbitt, and Rotaractor Monthe Kofos.  Their efforts were rewarded by the Judges right before the parade as the finishing touches were applied.

President Dave Walton said in an email to the volunteers, “I want to thank you all for the "Great Effort" that you all put into the float.”  Special thanks go to Peggy Sheldon and Chanson Nesbitt, son of member Molly Brodeur-Nesbitt, who donned apple costumes and smiled waived to the spectators along the two-mile parade route.  Additionally, Bonnie Doolin and Elaine McDonald walked in the parade.  All deserve special commendation for braving the rain in addition to the arduous pace of such a long parade.

The Club also wishes to thank the Haverhill Chamber of Commerce for lending the giant shoe for the float.

At the club meeting on September 5, President Dave Walton presented the trophy to the club and thanked all those who worked on the project to support a positive public image for both the club and Rotary International.
