First Baby of New Year Born to Marlborough Family at Emerson Hospital

Emerson Hospital welcomed its first baby of the new year on Thursday, January 2. Benjamin Garcia Doehler was born to Karyn Garcia and Danillo Doehler of Marlborough at 3:26 p.m. at 8 pounds, 11 ounces and 21.75 inches long. He was the first of six births that day at Emerson.

Benjamin, who was born on his exact due date, was delivered by certified nurse-midwife Trista Wehner of AFA Obstetrics & Gynecology, P.C. He joins his big brother, 2-year-old Noah, who was delivered at Emerson by Jamie Bond, MD of Concord OB/GYN Associates.

Garcia said she woke with contractions around 4 a.m. on January 2. She and her husband arrived at Emerson around 10:00 a.m., fortunately well before the height of the snowstorm. The family lived in Acton when Noah was born, but she said she never considered going to a hospital closer to their new home in Marlborough for the birth of their second child.

“It’s a really good place with good doctors,” she said. “My delivery with Noah went really well, and I had the same experience this time.”

Both parents said they never imagined their son would become the newest member of the hospital family in 2014. To commemorate the event, Emerson presented the family with a congratulatory gift basket containing a crocheted baby hat and clothes, lotion, chocolates and other treats.

“It’s definitely special, and unexpected because he was born on January 2,” Doehler said. “It’s going to be a happy new year, no doubt.”
