Public Forum on Marlborough's Future, May 21st

What kind of a City will Marlborough be 10, 15 or 20 years from now? Find out at the Public Forum on May 21.

It's easy to whine and complain about all that's wrong with local government and the state of one's community. It's common to feel powerless to instigate change. Every once in a while however citizens get the opportunity to participate in the planning and economic development process of their town or city through public forums. Currently Marlborough is gearing up for such an event with the upcoming Public Forum on Saturday, May 21.

As part of the city’s economic development master plan process, Marlborough residents, business owners and workers are strongly encouraged to participate in the public forum and voice their opinions, thoughts and ideas on the future development of Marlborough.

The program on May 21st will take place at the Marlborough High School. Registration begins at 8:00 AM with opening remarks and guest speakers commencing at 8:30 AM  in the High School’s Little Theater , followed by breakout sessions of around 10-12 person tables in the School’s Gymnasium. The day’s program will be will be conducted by FXM Associates, the master plan consultants, and will include several different activities that people can pick and choose from to attend.

Some of the questions you can expect to be raised:

  • What kind of a City will Marlborough be 10, 15 or 20 years from now?
  • Will there be enough good paying jobs in Marlborough for its residents?
  • Will there be enough housing for all those people that want to live in Marlborough and raise a family?
  • Will Marlborough have the quality educational system that its residents want and deserve?
  • Will the Residential Tax Rate be affordable for young families?
  • Will the Commercial Tax Rate become a reason for businesses to leave or not consider moving to Marlborough?

The Master Plan process will be completed and the final documents will be delivered to the City Council by September 15th. It is the hope of MEDC that everyone will take a little time out of their busy schedules to participate in this process.
