Discover a treasure trove in Hudson, MA

There are certain places one seems to drive by time after time and something always piques your interest. You keep saying you will stop and check it out one day.  The day came for me to step into Furniture and More at 43 Broad Street, Hudson to satisfy my curiosity. 

The assortment of chairs and other objects displayed on the sidewalk near the entrance gave it the appearance of a consignment store or antique shop.  One old yellow chair in particular caught my eye and since I needed an extra chair for the table for my Christmas gathering, that was the excuse to walk in. 

Stepping inside I was impressed by the neat and artistic positioning of all the items on sale.  There was a nice flow and cosy atmosphere, and every item was visually appealing. Apart from the usual ornaments, small pieces of furniture, vintage décor and other bric-a-brac, I was amazed to encounter a wonderful collection of Asian art objects. In particular furniture, masks, fabrics, statues and other items from Indonesia – Bali to be exact. As a lover of Asian art, this was a delightful and unexpected surprise.

When questioned about the origins of the Asian artefacts, the owner, a very charming lady of Swedish origin named Susanne Gabel-Leach, explained that she has a relative who runs a trade business in Indonesia. He passes on his surplus imports to her which she sells for very reasonable prices.

Though I eventually walked out with my yellow chair for a steal, I wished I had the space at home and money in hand to purchase some of the fine Indonesian art work on display.  No doubt I will be going back and I do recommend the store for anyone who wants to pick up an unusual gift, add to a collection or find a piece for a hobby. My yellow chair has a colorful and creative future awaiting it, for as soon as the holidays are over, it becomes my next decoupage project!
