Student Indian Dance Debut
AMSA tenth grader Shrunothra Ambati performed an Indian classical dance debut at the Casey Theater in Weston. Her recital featured many cultural archetypes of Indian dance, including the traditional Pushpanjali, Thodaya Mangalam, Subramanya Kauthuvam, and Jathiswara dances.
Shrunothra also performed a 35-minute Varnam, a series of challenges designed to test endurance. This Arangetram followed years of training as a classical art student, and served as a graduation performance in order to showcase acquired talents.
Supplemented by music, choreography, and abhinaya, or expression, she recreated several religious tales of Indian gods through her dance. The graduation prize money she received was donated to charity, per Shrunothra’s request.
