AMSA STUDENT COMPETES NATIONALLY!

From March 25th through the 29th, AMSA eighth grader Isabel Berdecio, co-captain of last year’s AMSA swim team, competed in the Junior National Age Groups for swimming in Clearwater, Florida. This competition is reserved for the strongest swimmers in the nation.  Isabel proved her talent as a swimmer in qualifying for the competition and placing in the top ten for several events.

To qualify for this competition, Isabel competed in a regional Age Groups swim meet, finishing with outstanding times. After this competitive swim meet, Isabel qualified for Florida’s national competition along with just sixteen others from her team.

During the meet, Isabel swam the preliminary rounds in the mornings to qualify for the finals in the evening.  She competed in several events, placing 7th or above for each one.  Her best event was the relay, in which Isabel and her teammates won first place.  Isabel’s best individual event was the 100-meter back stroke where she placed 5th.
