Scholarship Application Deadline, Feline Film Festival

Here are five interesting or important things to know today.

1. Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarships, awarded in partnership with local Simon Mall properties, have an application deadline of Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014. Students can pick up a copy of a scholarship application at the Simon Guest Services Center at Auburn Mall and Solomon Pond Mall. Applications also can be downloaded at the SYF website (applies for students interested at Greendale Mall) at www.syf.org/our-initiatives/scholarships/community-application Any student who will be graduating in the class of 2014 and lives within 50 miles of a Simon property is eligible. The program will award a one-time scholarship of up to $1,500 to students who plan to enroll in an accredited college, university, vocational or technical school.

2. Do you enjoy watching talented cats? The CaRMaH Feline Film Festival will feature selected entries of cat videos, photos, stories and poems. More information is available here. CaRMaH is the new name for the Cat Rescue of Marlborough and Hudson. The film festival will be Jan. 19 in Clinton.

3. Save the Date: the Greyhound Friends Pet Adoption Fair is Jan. 22. This Hopkinton-based non-profit tries to find good homes for retired racing greyhounds, and other dogs, too.

4. The city will be collecting Christmas trees from now through Jan. 17, depending on your regular collection day. See the schedule here. And don't forget to take off the base and the decorations.
