Power Surge Causes Marlborough Fire Alarms and Car Hits a Pole

Get the five things you need to know today in Marlborough.

1. It wouldn't be New England without some wonky weather. Temperatures are forecast to reach 81 Wednesday, according to Weather.com.

2. A single car accident into a utility pole shut down traffic on Lincoln Street Tuesday morning around 9 a.m. The crash split the pole, which National Grid had to replace. The driver of the car refused to be transported, according to Fire Department officials.

3. A number of fire alarms and elevator alarms went off Tuesday around 10 a.m. following a power surge of an unknown origin, according to Fire Department Lt. Brian Gould. 

“There was a surge in the system that shut down the power momentarily in the western part of the city," he said.

5. Congresswoman Niki Tsongas (D-Lowell) Says She Will Not Take Paycheck During Government Shutdown. Her offices will also remain open throughout the shut down, she said.
