Marlborough Youth Cheer to Compete at Regionals, Begins Fund-raising for Nationals

Here are five things to know to help inform your day.

1. The 10U and 12U squads for Marlborough Youth Cheer have qualified to compete at regionals, with the possibility of both teams advancing to national competition in December, in Flordia. The regional competition is Nov. 23. Fundraising is now ongoing for the possible national trip. All funds will benefit Marlborough American Youth Football and Cheer if the girls do not advance to nationals.

2. It's time for live theater and dessert! At 7 p.m., Nov. 15 and 16, the Marlborough High School Drama Club will host its annual Dessert Theater, which combines student-directed and student-produced, one-act plays with some tasty treats. This year’s three plays are:

  • “Thank You for Flushing My Head in the Toilet (and other lesser said phrases),” a play about bullying directed by senior Veronica Hutton.
  • “A Play with Words,” a comedy full of word play and puns directed by senior Erinn Farmer.
  • “Anna and August,” a romantic comedy directed by senior Brian Stangle
Complimentary desserts will be served at intermission. MHS English teacher and Drama Club Advisor Chris Henry is providing production resources. Sarah Worrest, a director with Up With The Arts in Hudson, is supervising director. Tickets are $8 for students and seniors citizens, and $10 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at the door or online through showtix4u at http://tinyurl.com/desserttheatre2013.

3. Save the Date: The Marlborough-based Ghost Light Players will have a wine and beer tasting fundraiser on Dec. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Julio's Liquors in Westborough. The night will include wine and beer tastings, light snacks, live entertainment and a 50/50 raffle, with all proceeds to benefit the theater troupe. Members of the troupe will perform scenes from next year's shows. Tickets are $20 in advance, or $25 at the door.
