Marlborough Burning 14 Acres for Conservation

Here are five things you need to know today.

1. Does it feel like fall yet? Wednesday's weather may feel like it with a forecast high temperature of 62 degrees, according to weather.com.

2. Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) and the City of Marlborough Conservation Commission (MCC) will be burning a 14 acre area to return pitch pine-scrub barrens to a desert natural area. This land straddles land owned by SVT in Memorial
Forest and City of Marlborough Conservation land. The burn will take place some time between Oct. 16 and Oct. 20. The exact date of the burn must be determined based on specified conditions that must be in place for safe burn conditions.

3. Periodic fires are good for this kind of land, according to a press release from the Marlborough Conservation Department. Certain plants require fire in order to thrive and with modern fire suppression, this kind of coverage that provides a home for a number of animals has been suppressed in the area.

4. In case you missed it... the Final Ward Park Senior Center Discussion has been Set. This will be your one chance to have your voice heard and make a difference in a vote on whether a new senior center goes into Ward Park.
