It’s been an interesting week in the U.S. Senate Race between Democrat Elizabeth Warren and incumbent Republican Scott Brown.
First it was revealed that Harvard University once touted Warren’s marginal Native American heritage as proof of their faculty’s diversity. That story was followed up with another revealing one that Warren had listed herself as a minority professor between 1986 and 1995 in the Association of American Law Schools desk book, a major reference for legal professors. On Tuesday it was revealed that Brown, who ran for office vowing to kill President Obama’s health care law (and who has since voted three times to repeal it) took advantage of a key provision in it: the provision that allows him to keep his elder daughter on his congressional health insurance plan. Meanwhile, both candidates downplayed their wealth this week as they revealed their …

Did US Sen. Scott Brown make an error by accepting a campaign contribution from the president of the New York Yankees?
US Sen. Scott Brown kicked up a little infield dust this week when it was revealed that Randy Levine, president of the New York Yankees, donated the maximum $2,500 to the Brown re-election campaign. As Joe Battenfeld of the Boston Herald so succinctly put it, “That’s right, the commander of the Evil Empire is helping to pay for all those Brown ads championing his support of the Red Sox.” So, what is a candidate to do? Should he have respectfully declined the contribution, stating his allegiance to the Boston Red Sox? Said Battenfeld, “It’s one thing to be bipartisan, Senator, but this is taking it a little too far. There’s no compromising in baseball.” What do you think? Were you bothered by the Senator, who recently aired a web video …

Former governor Mitt Romney was supported by Marlborough residents Tuesday in the presidential primary, but some believe there was simply no better choice.
Former Governor Mitt Romney swept away the competition in Marlborough and most of Massachusetts during the 2012 presidential primary held Tuesday. In Marlborough, Romney won every precinct of every ward in the city earning 1,780 of 3,332 votes cast. This was a 16.15 percent of turnout of registered votes in the city, much higher than the four percent that had showed by mid-afternoon to vote in nearby Boston. Romney's victory in Massachusetts was no surprise to anyone. Prior to the election local officials voiced their support. "On Tuesday, I will be supporting Mitt Romney for President," said State Rep. Steven Levy (R-Marlborough). "Mitt is the only candidate, on either side, who has the experience to bring the national focus back to jobs…

The former Massachusetts governor beat the rest of the field by a large margin.
Hours after the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was declared a win for former governor Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential primary, Marlborough ballots were still trickling in to City Hall. City Clerk Lisa Thomas' office reported that 16.15 percent of registered voters showed up to the polls Tuesday casting a total of 3,332 votes. These unofficial results showed Romney winning every precinct in every ward of the city with a total of 1780. Rick Santorum took second place with 293 votes. Ron Paul captured the loyalty of 226 Marlborough residents. And Newt Gingrich brought up the rear with 101 votes. There were even a handful of votes for candidates who had previously suspended their campaigns, including three for Michele Bachmann. Paul …

To the Editor: I am writing to ask voters choosing the Democratic ballot in the Massachusetts presidential primary on Tuesday, March 6 to cast your vote for Kate Donaghue for Democratic State Committeewoman. Those paying close attention or who are involved in Democratic politics probably know Kate Donaghue well. There has been a lot written in recent letters to the editor also in support of her about her work ethic, dedication to Democratic principles, and her help in getting so many public officials elected, including myself. All of this is true. As someone who is extremely proud as the State Senator of the Middlesex & Worcester district to work on so many public policy issues of the values behind Kate’s commitment to the Democratic Party…

To the Editor: Having given the matter great deal of thought and consideration, I have come to the conclusion that I will withdraw from the race for state representative for the Middlesex 13th district effective immediately. Several factors have led me to this difficult decision. When I entered this race, our current state representative, Tom Conroy, was engaged in a spirited campaign for the United States Senate. His decision to run for re-election to a fourth term as state representative left me challenging a Democrat with similar policy ideals and one I had supported in the past. Tom is a good legislator and will have my support again this November. Concurrent with beginning my campaign, I also engaged a new professional endeavor that …

Santorum questions Obama’s religion in a disagreement over environmental issue.
Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum made headlines this week after accusing President Obama of following a phony theology. His comments, he said later, were based on what he perceived as Obama’s radical environmentalism. “It’s about some phony idea, some phony theology,” Santorum told a Tea Party crowd in Ohio on Feb. 18. “Oh, not a theology based on the Bible. A different theology.” A day later, Santorum explained his comments by saying, “I was talking about the radical environmentalists,” he told reporter Bob Schieffer, according to The Huffington Post. "I believe the president's Christian — he says he's Christian," Santorum said. Despite the clarification, the issue continues to make news. Robert Gibbs, an adviser for Obama’…

After taking losses to Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum in recent days, can Newt Gingrich make a comeback in the Republian primary?
According to Politico, Newt Gingrich's comeback is already secured. Not in the Republican primary, where his opponents Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum have taken victories in recent weeks, but in the broader political realm. "Gone are the days of Gingrich as washed-up talking head, spouting off inflammatory and easily ignored rhetoric on Fox News in decidedly non-prime time hours," Politico's Alexander Burns wrote. After taking a role as a marginalized radical in recent years, his current presidential run is a test of how much relevance a single campaign can earn, Politico says. This quest for relevance motivates Gingrich's long-shot campaign, and drags out an increasingly bloody Republican primary. While the chances of a Gingrich …

Rep's family used Marlborough GOP as conduit for donations. GOP contends they've done nothing wrong.
The Massachusetts Democratic Committee filed a complaint against the Marlborough Republican City Committee with the Office of Campaign and Political Finance, the organization told Marlborough Patch on Thursday. This action was taken after an Andover Eagle-Tribune article was published Wednesday, Feb. 9, detailing round-about donations the Marlborough committee made to the 2010 election campaign of State Rep. Paul Adams R-(Essex). The article alleges the parents and brother of Adams made the maximum donations allowed to the Marlborough GOP after first donating the maximum allowed personally directly to his campaign. These funds then went from the Marlborough committee to the Adams' campaign, said the article. Donations through the …
