Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
Spring is here! There's no turning back now. We have Daylight Savings Time and a calendar date to prove it. I saw all kinds of spring activities going on over the weekend. People were out washing their cars by hand, raking yard debris that was buried under the snow for so long and simply enjoying being outside of their homes! After we have been forced inside for what seemed like an eternity, it's hard to consider doing another indoor activity. However, looking at the movies that are playing right now, I was struck by how many different genres were available! Truly, something for everyone. …
So, we have sprung forward, the snow has significantly melted and Thursday is Saint Patrick's Day. Could it mean that winter is all but over? Yes! What better way to celebrate spring than to honor the patron saint of Ireland? (Irish ancestry is not required.) Whether you love Guinness (straight up, brown and foamy or with green color added), prefer a different beer or just want Irish food, Marlborough has some great options. Kennedy's Pub  has made March 17 the biggest party day of the year since they opened in 1981. You can find corned beef and cabbage, English fish and chips, burgers, Irish…
What is this meetup.com of which I speak? It's an on-line social networking site that helps coordinate offline group meetings all over the world! Since we're in the U.S., we would enter a zip-code and a topic of interest. The website then helps you find like-minded people right here in our neck of the woods! For our purposes, we would type in “mom's night out!” Maybe you work full-time and find it hard to meet other moms in the community, but still would love to connect with women who live nearby and plan a ladies' or a couples' night out? Perhaps you stay home with your child and would like …
If you're like us, we stayed home for school vacation week. My kids and I have been keeping busy and there are still some fun things planned, but I know I'm not the only mom who's been fighting the winter blues. So, it got me thinking, what can we do to keep us going (even smiling) this week while our kids are home?  It's still gloomy out, but we have to be on top of our game. Enter “the reset button.” Someone famous on TV had coined the phrase, but we all know what it is. It's a little something you can do everyday to make you feel like yourself again. Good news! There are things you can do …
Let's face it. This has been a very tough winter, to say the least. We are hard-pressed to remember green grass and warm, carefree days when faced with images of snowbanks, like edifices, at every turn! Cabin fever is a real condition caused by being cooped up in small spaces as a result of long and snowy winters. Sufferers can feel bored, inactive, restless and irritable. According to Paul Rosenblatt, a family social scientist at the University of Minnesota, research has found that people who are home caring for either children or the sick are most vulnerable to cabin fever. If you believe …
Whether you call it “joe” or “take” it regular, coffee is an important part of many lives. People rely on it to get their days going. From that first and best sip to the bottom of a second cup, we transform from groggy to mentally alert. Coffee has always been a social drink, the earliest coffeehouses dating back to sixteenth-century Istanbul! For moms, coffee undoubtedly meets the need for feeling awake, but it also conjures up an image of a break. Either in your favorite mug or handed to you at a drive-through, whether you're by yourself or in adult company, just add coffee and you have …
