The Marlborough Youth Baseball Association announces that its own Cal Ripken 12 year old All-Stars will be hosting this year’s Cal Ripken New England Regionals Baseball Tournament at the Williams Street Complex here in Marlborough.
The week-long tournament will kick off with opening ceremonies on Friday, July 22 and continue over the weekend of July 23 and 24 .Cal Ripken State Champions from the New England States and Bermuda will compete for the chance to travel to Visalia, CA (August 12 -19) for the Cal Ripken World Series.
Most of the boys on this year’s Marlborough team have been playing all-star baseball together for four years, with this year being the culminating and final year in the youth league. As Western MA State Champs for the past two years, they have had a very successful run so far. As 10 year olds they placed 4th in regional competition and last year finished in 3rd place. They are coached by Jim Tirpak and parented by some of the proudest parents around!
Hundreds of fans are expected to attend over the course of the tournament. Parents, players, and coaches of course, but also local youth sports enthusiasts and MYBA alumni are expected to attend the tournament. Teams from out of state will be staying at Embassy Suites in Marlborough, which is just a short drive from the fields. Admission is free and there will be plenty of tasty shack food as well as a silent auction and souvenirs available for purchase.
MYBA will also be hosting the 11 year old All-Star Regionals, which will take place during the weekend of August 6 and 7. Please visit MYBA at www.myba.org for more details about youth baseball in our area as well as additional details about upcoming tournaments.
