“Life is Good” that is what the t-shirts say. Life is good when I am golfing, swimming, kayaking, biking I even have one for meditating! The yogic lifestyle practice of contentment says that though life is not good all the time, can you still be content with where you are at and with what is happening in each and every moment. Yoga asks you to practice contentment in every moment of every day.
You might ask how do you practice contentment? It is easy to be content when you feel like everything is going your way. You made every green light on your way to work, dinner turned out better then you expected and everyone ate it, your child received an award or made a team that he tried out for, your daughter got the lead in the play. Any of these things some small and some large might leave you with that glowing feeling that life is good and working out for you.
Yoga asks more of you though, what happens when your son doesn't get the job, or the lead in the show, you hit a traffic jam on your way to work. What feeling arises inside for you? Anger, frustration, sadness certainly not contentment. These are the times that yoga asks you to pause and look inside to find contentment, that inner peace that is still there and to cultivate it in the good times and bad.
So whether life is handing you some bad news, a disappointment, a new challenge has arisin in your life pause and find the contentment with where your life is right now. Maybe life just gave you or someone you know a great opportunity, and everything seems to be running smoothly for you - again practice contentment with where your life is right now. For “Life is Good” at work, at play and in every moment!

I practice yoga on a regular basis where releasing all the negative energy from my body brings contentment to me through the different and challenging deep stretches in my yoga class. As a professional counselor, I suggest yoga as a possible healing activity to bring relaxation to the mind and body while letting go of the negative energy.
