I am what some would call a high church Calvinist. For most UCC churches I would even be a VERY high church minister. One of the may ways it shows is by sticking closely to the liturgical calendar. We are in the season of Advent. A season of waiting, not really for Christmas - or at least not only for Christmas - but for the coming of Christ when "Every valley will be exalted, and every mountain and hill made low." This is a season when we prepare and "make way", knowing that it is Christ who will make all things right. We strive for justice, peace, and reconciliation nonetheless - joyfully, and with good cheer.
This Sunday is the Third Sunday of Advent - the Sunday of Joy. I will be wearing my pink stole, the colour of joy. The church cannot contain its joy at the coming of Christ, and breaks for with shouts of jubilation!
And so to celebrate this joy with us, we invite you to our Soup & Bread Meal on Wednesday. November 12 from 5PM to 6PM. The soup has been graciously prepared and donated by Mrs. Sandy Stetson and Main Street Cafe. There is no cover or charge - if you can and want to, you may make a free will donation. The money gathered will go to hunger programs locally, nationally, and internationally.
People of no and any religion are welcome! Come and share the warmth of soup and company with us.
