Who Will Run for Kerry's Seat if He's Appointed Secretary of Defense?
Would it be Scott Brown? Congressman Markey or Capuano? Tell us who you think should run.
The Washington Post is reporting that President Obama is considering appointing Massachusetts U.S. Sen. John Kerry as the Secretary of Defense. There was speculation Kerry would be the next Secretary of State.
Kerry's move would open up his current seat. Should he be appointed, a special election would be held to finish out Kerry's term, which expires in 2014.
Conversation from the breakfast table this morning to the morning commute has everyone talking - who will run for Kerry's U.S. Senate seat if he's appointed? Could it be Scott Brown? Or maybe Ed Markey or Michael Capuano?
Tell us: who do you think will run for Kerry's seat if he's appointed? Let us know in the comments section below.

I would love to see Marisa DeFranco run for the Senate and win, and Scott Brown then run for governor and win. Or vice versa. They are both from different parties but both are intelligent and capable leaders.

Hopefully it will be Ed Markey or Mike Capuano.... Scott Brown should go away into obscurity . I am Christine Thompson and I approve this message.

Let's get another Democrat so that there are no checks and balances in our system anymore!!

Let's make sure that they are full-blown liers and that they have no clue, unless prompted, what they want to do after they are elected. Then we'll have two of them!

Joe, what do you mean "then we'll have two of them". By my count we currently have 535 that meet or exceed that criteria. 100 senators and 435 representatives.

I think Scott Brown will run for the Republican seat if he decides to not run for Governor instead. Who knows, maybe Mitt Romney will run...

Mitt Romney can run for President of a new confederacy that is currently being petitioned:

lemmings? really lemmings? after we elected romney for governor and scott brown as senator in the last cycle? lemmings are the red state GOP voters with whom the dems don't stand a chance ever.

The other lemmings will vote for whomever the Republicans tell them to vote for as well.

Why are people who you disagree with treated with such contempt? Some of the smartest, most well read, thoughtful, politically savvy people I know voted for Obama and Warren. And, I wouldn't dream of calling some of my friends who voted for the other side, and have those same qualities, names and suggest they are mindless.
One reason the GOP got creamed at the state and national levels is that there was so much sheer name calling like this from the right. Just do a content analysis of one of these political threads. As Steve Schmidt pointed out, there were too many Republican Loonies and Wackos. I fear you may be in their ranks.
I'll be if you had to give your real name you wouldn't say this stuff. And I wish the editors would simply end name calling of this kind.

Kudos to Ron G. From the little (very, very little) attention I pay looking at political comments here, it's rare to see level-headed thinking, let alone analysis, in Patch forums like this. I appreciate a level of disappointment and even skepticism from folks let down from the results of last week -- and frankly (maybe fortunately), we've all felt it at some point, but to so blithely insult people who voted differently is just irresponsible and - in my opinion - immature.

I respectfully disagree. Kerry has been noted as one of the apologists to the European nations. He disparaged our nation while overseas. His compatriots are Bobby Kennedy and Hanoi Jane Fonda. A poor selection.

It would be a disgrace and insult to all veterans to appoint that moron to Secretary of Defense.

Kind of like appointing Jane Fonda honorary chairperson for the USO. Maybe 'Liveshot' can show the Generals the proper technique for throwing other people's medals over the White House wall.

As a veteran, I could not disagree more. I would be honored to have him as SECDEF. I know many veterans who feel the same.

Why? He has served honorably and has three purple hearts to show for it, never mind the swiftboaters. I can't think of anyone better suited to the job.

Kind of like supporting someone for Sec Def or any office for that matter, with 5 draft deferments and "...other priorities in the '60s than military service" .
Thanks Dick.

The possibility of Brown replacing a newly appointed SECDEF Kerry will keep Kerry out of contention.
Keep your eye on Michele Flournoy as this unfolds.

The only way Scott Brown is going to be a successful is to pick a side. He either needs to be a conservative Republican or a liberal Democrat. He lost to a complete train wreck and an embarrassment to Massachusetts but she is a mega liberal. She had the complete support of the liberals in Massachusetts. Scott didnt even have the complete support of Republicans. There is a reason for partisan politics, it keeps you in office.
When u stay in the center, no one supports you. Look at the commercials Warren ran against him. I may not have been a big fan of Scott Brown but at least I respected him. The fact that he lost to Elizabeth Warren is embarrassing.
