What is the Best Gym in Marlborough?

Tell us where the best place in Marlborough is to work out and what you like, or don't like, about it.

In the second week of our "Best of Marlborough" series, we want you to tell us where the best gym in the city is.

Is it Planet Fitness, Gold's Gym, Crossfit, New Life Heath and Wellness or the Wayside Racquet & Swim Club

If we're leaving one off of the list, please let us know in the comments and we'll add it.

Voting in the poll below is open until 9 a.m. Friday.

Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.

Ties will be broken by whichever business has the most positive comments in the section below. We will announce the winner at noon Friday.

So tell us where your favorite place to work out is, or even what you don't like about certain facilities. And don't forget to tell us why in the comments below.

Once you've voted and commented here, head over to nearby Patches and cast your vote there as well: Northborough Patch, Westborough Patch and Framingham Patch

I think it all depends on what your looking for. I have been a member at all 5 of these gyms and there's no noubt that Crossfit is by far the best gym and gives you hands on training each and every day. Planet fitness has the bare bones gym equipment but if your workout doesnt include any free weights then this is the place for you. My ranking for my workout regime would be Crossfit, Golds, Wayside , New LIfe then Planet Fitness.

LOVE Wayside - the Zumba classes and pool are fantastic! Plus they just redid the bathrooms :)

If you are interested in getting BIG results from a lot of work, Crossfit is for you. There is a free class at 10 am on Saturdays for anyone who would like to give it a try.

Gold's is the best, but a plyo/olympic/agility/power lifting style of fitness is best if you're looking for results. I'd recommend a CrossFit gym to learn this style of fitness, but wouldn't recommend CrossFit Marlboro. They don't have enough plates, don't follow many CF principles, and they try to hawk you some sort of fraudulent "magic" supplement half the time. To be honest, you really don't need a CrossFit gym to work out this way, you just need the know-how and self-motivation and you can do your routine at any Gold's. That said, if you DO need the motivation of a CrossFit gym (group workouts), then you'd be much better off driving to Milford CrossFit or CrossFit New England in Natick, two of the best.

Sarah - if the 'fraudulent' magic supplement your referring to is the Omega 3 Fish Oil - your right. You will find almost all Crossfit Gyms recommending a Paleo-Zone combination diet with Omega 3 supplementation. Dr. Barry Sears, the man who started the Zone Diet, has been a longtime friend of Crossfit. As for the Marlboro Crossfit, too bad it wasn't for you.

Hmm, Fish Oil doesn't come in huge containers (protein powder size)...it wasn't just Fish Oil, and it for sure wasn't protein powder, but it's cool, doesn't matter. :-) We all have our own opinions. Good luck to you!

What magic supplements come in protein powder size containers but aren't protein powder? None that I've ever seen.

I LOVE CrossFit of Marlboro. I've been there since the doors opened, and I've seen amazing results. I'm also taking the fish oil on a regular basis as a supplement to my Paleo Diet, by my choice. I'm in the best shape of my life.

They are obviously doing something right as they've moved three times to accommodate their growing member base.

I challenge you to come back and give it a try AND I guarantee there will be plenty of plates for you to use.

I've been looking at trying the free Saturday CrossFit class. What is the monthly membership price?

Hey Bobby - I pay - I think - $140/month for 3 times a week. It is a great deal though. I used to wrestle in high school. I haven't worked this hard since, and that was years ago. I love the olympic lifts, and the changes I have gotten in the past 6 months are awesome. Nothing you can do on your own for sure - I've tried everything. Even the P-90X doesn't come close. I would definitely give them a try.

I'm sure it sounds pricey, but it's well worth it and you basically have a personal trainer helping you out the whole time you are there, watching and coaching you, not sitting at the front desk listening to their Ipod, like other places. The comradery is exceptional and friendships that can be made are well worth it.

I have been a member of New Life for about a month and it is by far the BEST gym I have ever belonged to. They have great equipment and offer an array of classes included in the membership price, plus hotel amenities are available to us when they gym is not open. The staff is super friendly and motivating and they are more member focused than anywhere else...this is far from the factory gym style of PF and Gold's. I HATED the gym, but am turning into an avid exerciser thanks to Sandy and the staff at New Life. I have made so much progress in a short time thanks to their knowledge, skill, and energy. I will never join anywhere else if I can avoid it!

I love New Life, they are friendly and warm and never fail to greet you with a smile and a word. The gym is clean and tidy, the members speak to each other and it feels more like family as we cheer each other on. It maybe small but it's big on helping members get to their goals. Hats off to New Life.

I'd recommend giving Crossfit Marlboro a try - for a couple reasons...
- I've never seen results like I have since I've started here. My personal fitness levels have increased exponentially, both in resistance and in cardio.
- Tom and the team are exceptional to work with. An above commenter mentioned that they don't always follow CrossFit principles; this is partly true. They often will break from the norm when it's appropriate - especially when a workout regimen spec'd by CF is overkill for a newer member or member with injury, etc., or if a member requests work on a specific area. I've seen this happen many times and you can't get that at most CF gyms - I tried 3 or 4 boxes before settling on this one.
- The community at CF Marlboro is unbeatable. The personal attention is often equivalent to having a personal trainer.
- They offer high end supplement lines at not-high-end prices, know enough to help you if you're interested, and don't push crap on you if you're not.

New Life is the best gym I have ever belonged to. Everyone is friendly and the workouts offered in classes are challenging. The bathrooms are always clean with fresh towels and the hotel amenities add the extra touch that makes it a step above other gyms.

Crossfit is the best workout experience I have ever had. It's obviousley not for everyone even though anyone can do it. At other gyms, there is no motivation, no challenge, it's the same routine over and over again (zzzzz). When you come into crossfit, there is a new routine everytime, and they are ALWAYS a challenge. After 3+ months I still feel it in my body the next day after a workout, your body never gets used to it, which is a good thing. Everyone there is great, we push and cheer each other on, no matter who is doing what. Just a great experience, great atmosphere, there's nothing like it. And I have never once had any supplements pushed on me (except fish oil, which is a crossfit thing and it definitely helped me) nor have I seen it pushed on anyone else unless they asked for advice.

New Life Health and Wellness has been transformed since Sandy and John have taken the helm. It's not the biggest health club but very friendly and member oriented. Aside from Wayside it's the only reasonabily priced health club with racquetball. Give a try. You'll love it.

I cannot get enough of New Life Health and Wellness. The gym is clean, the staff is great and the owner is amazing. She knows my name cares for my work out routine and challenges me personally and others in the class. Sandy is always improving her gym for your clients. She is passionate about local small business and supporting them. Where else can you find a gym that has free classes (with membership, a supportive staff and other clients, complete amenities AND a smiling genuine caring owner all for a reasonable price: You can't unless you go to New Life Health and Wellness. Take a tour they even let you try it for a week with no pressure of or hassle to sign up. No worries through because I know you will and you should.

NLHW is awesome! Perfect size, can't beat the prices and that includes the pool and many classes like Zumba, Yoga, pilates, boot camp and many more. The staff is friendly, everyone knows each other and always eager to have more join the "family." The owners are awesome and the hours are perfect for me!

New Life is by far the best. I have joined many places in different states, and New Life is the winner. This is not a ‘gym’, but a high quality professional health and fitness center set in the safe environs of a Courtyard by Marriott hotel. The club offers services other area facilities do not: a racquetball court, pool, quality machines and above all excellent management and trainers; there is also a fine restaurant in the hotel. Sandy Condon, the owner and a personal trainer, is an inspiration and marvelous. Folks in the hotel are fabulous. I would not consider any other facility; join New Life.
