An overnight operation is responsible for the removal of snow downtown.
City crews sweep in under the cover of dark beginning at 12 a.m. to clear the snow downtown and in the surrounding area.
The snow is first pushed into rows by front loaders. Then a special machine — much like a household snowblower on a massive scale — moves through shooting the snow into dump trucks, said The City's General Foreman of Streets Kenneth Calder. Depending on the magnitude of the storm, an additional machine may be brought in to clear the snow.
The snow is then taken back to a snow dump at the Department of Public Works facility.

Yup it was so loud I live off of Church street near Maple and couldn't sleep with the banging and noise and it went on all night. "Sweep in under the cover in dark" not for anyone living close to downtown. It was a night of banging and beeping. But had to be done I just wish I had ear plugs.

Why is that blower being used in neighborhoods--last time you dumped a 9 foot pile in my front yard--killing the grass and a beautiful bush, my now deaseased father planted. I also could not see to pull out of my driveway and we are on a bad corner. If it happens again, I will again shovel it back out into the street. What happened to the plows widening the streets???

Marlboro DPW needs to use that machine in the neighborhoods to reduce snow banks, It is very hard to see, when entering or exiting streets at intersections. Accidents can happen when drivers can't see cars over the high banks. Do not leave high piles near people's homes.
Boston has a truck which can melt snow deposited into it. I wish that Marlboro can get access to one.

Those trucks that melt snow are on loan from Logan Airport, and probably cost a million dollars. We are lucky to have the machines we do, and the good workers of the DPW to make our lives easier!

That is a good question. Thank you for asking. We will have an article with the answer in the next few days.
