A multi-agency police sting operation staged at a Northborough motel over the weekend resulted in the arrests of seven men, all who face charges of paying for sexual contact with a person under 18.

According to court records, the operation involved a female State Police detective posing as a 17-year-old girl who answered calls made in response to an online posting offering sex. 

When men called the number they were instructed to bring cash and in some cases other items—one man was asked to and allegedly brought a $25 Old Navy gift card—to the EconoLodge Inn and Suites on Route 20, at 380 Southwest Cutoff. 

Along with Massachusetts State Police, police from Northborough, Worcester and Fitchburg took part in the operation.  

Arrested were: William Shomphe, 54, of 56 Nashoba Dr., Marlborough; David Huckings, 51, of 7 Kingson Ln., Apt. 2, Medway; Wilson Silva, 41, of 442 Hollis St., Framingham; Charles Fegan, 26, of 96 Hartness Rd., Sutton; Miles Silun, 32, of 69 Prince Rd., Charlton;  Daniel DeMarzo, 30, of 108 N. Main St., N. Grafton; and Zachary Chase, 37, of 108 Concord Rd., Marlborough. 

The men were all arrested Saturday evening and had their cell phones, cash and other items confiscated.

In each case, the detective, who police said told each suspect she was 17, asked the men to bring varying amounts of cash—as much as $200—and items such as Marlboro cigarettes, marijuana and Bud Light. 

All seven men were arraigned Monday in Westborough District Court before Judge Vito Virzi and released on personal recognizance. 

All are due back in court over the next month to two months for pretrial hearings. The judge also ordered the  men to stay away from the EconoLodge. 

The EconoLodge has been the subject of police activity around prostitution in the past. In June, police arrested a New York woman at the motel and charged her with sexual conduct for a fee.
