Those traveling through town Saturday afternoon were greeted by the sounds and sights of snow being cleared throughout Marlborough as the big dig out followed the big blizzard of 2013.

"It's going slow. This is our second time out here," said Marge Scott who was shoveling in front of her home.

The snow blowers and shovels were working hard to clear an estimated two feet of snow that fell on the city over night. The storm was right up there with the Blizzard of '78 which she looked back upon fondly commenting that it was even fun.

"People were on sleds and snowmobiles," said Scott.

Some people were out enjoying themselves following the storm. Joseph Seay was out with his wife Sally and daughter Catherine looking for somewhere to sled after digging out before lunch. The sledding was not that good with the fluffy snow, said the trio who was going to try again tomorrow. Seay did comment on the deserted nature of the city.

"You know it's a blizzard in New England when the Dunkin Donuts is closed," he said.

Jesse Hamill and Ken Hancock were walking their dogs in the afternoon on their first venture out of the house since Friday. The evening had gone well, they said, until they opened the door.

"This morning was a different story. When we opened the front door we were buried," said Hancock.

No one was complaining about the roads, which were all clear and ready to go. The snow fell throughout the night and was tough to keep up with during white out conditions but the roads are all in good condition now, said Marlborough General Foreman of Streets Kenneth Calder.

"We're shifting gears into the sanding operation," he said shortly before 4 p.m.

He said not having any other vehicles on the road was extremely helpful during the plowing.

"The no driving ban, it was an awesome help. I'd like to see that more often when there is a big storm," said Calder.

Kristen Sagar was out clearing snow and was impressed with the city's clearance of the roads.

"We've gotten so much better with snow removal and the roads," she said.
