This is one of Diana Manning's tattoos, designed by her with the help of the tattoo artist.
Rich O'Brien had this rendering of his dad, who passed away, tattooed on his arm.
Angela Bazydlo, associate director of public relations at Clark University, shared this tattoo with us. "I had this tattoo added to my toe last year after my mom died," she said. "I'd wanted a tattoo since '02 and could never ever decide on what I wanted permanently on my body. I knew after my mom died on March 26, it would have to be something that signified her. My friends told me the tattoo should make me smile. One morning, while taking a shower, I looked down at my feet and the idea came to me. As a small child, my mom would entertain us (and our friends) by putting a penny on her toe, and snapping her toe knuckle and sending the penny flying across the room. It was perfect. I think of her every time I look at it and tell the story."

Years ago, in a bar, a guy — must have been roughly in his mid 30s — was getting mercilessly razzed by his friends. Finally, after being asked repeatedly what they were making fun of him about, he lifted up his shirt, turned around, and revealed the tattoo on his lower back.

"Yeah yeah, I know, I've got a tramp stamp and it's for chicks," he said. "I got it years ago and didn't know what I was doing."

He can't be the only one out there full of regret over a chosen tattoo. A drunken night in the vicinity of a tattoo parlor surely has produced a heart with a name in it, or two.

And then others think long and hard about their ink. Many choose the art to reference someone they have lost, or revere.

Believe it or not, there is a guy out there in the area who has a Blues Traveler tattoo.

The site tattoofinder.com routinely posts interesting statistics on the subject, noting that a Pew Research Center poll in 2010 found that 15 percent of 18-25 year olds think tattoos have had a positive impact, and an even greater amount argue that the increase in tattoos has had no discernable impact. The site also links to a study that shows that the FDA found that 45 million Americans had at least one tattoo, and this was in 2006.

So, what say you? What gives with your ink? Do you have a tattoo? Do you regret it or is it the best thing you've done? Please vote in our poll and post in the comments section. And we'd love to see shots of your tattoos. Click and load 'em. Let's see what ink is out there in the region.

I have a total of 4 tattoo's and 3 of them have been done by Dragonsink Tattoo's in Central Village CT, The first one they did for me was a cross with two doves holding a banner with my son's name that had passed away, So I have 2 tattoos that are very important to me as well as a reminder of people that I have lost..

Never...they don't look good and only look worse as the body ages.

I have about 8 so far and I am working on more. I don't regret them at all. Your body is going to age no matter what, why not have some decoration and stories to tell about it.
