Redistricting Lines Should be Finalized in Sept. 2011

A redistricting meeting at Framingham State University Saturday gave community members a chance to give their opinions on who will represent them in congress and in the state house.

Local lawmakers gathered Saturday for a redistricting hearing at  to talk about the future of Massachusetts' Congressional districts.

Attendees were able to ask questions of the Special Joint Committee on Redistricting, of which State Senator Karen Spilka serves on it.

Saturday's meeting, which took place while close to a million people were in Boston celebrating the Bruins winning the Stanley Cup, was one of several meetings being held throughout the state. This was the only meeting in the MetroWest area. The next scheduled meeting is in Boston in July.

Committee leaders said new redsitricting lines should be in effect by September 2011. 

What must be redrawn are the congressional districts as Massachusetts is going from 10 congressman to nine. New lines for the Massachusetts House of Representatives, State Senator and Governor's Council Districts may also need to be redrawn.
