Piccadilly Pub Shuts its Doors Indefinitely

Piccadilly Pub's parent company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The Marlborough location of Piccadilly Pub at 587 Bolton St. is closed. A memo is posted on the front door, dated Feb. 6, and reads in part, “Piccadilly Pub Restaurants have temporarily closed. Currently, a date has not been set for a re-opening.”

Restaurant chain owner Elephant & Castle filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June.

Management thanked customers for their patronage of the restaurant in the message posted, adding that they hope to serve the public again sometime soon. (see photo)

Piccadilly Pub is part of a chain of restaurants with locations in both Canada and the United States, including locations in Auburn, Worcester, Westborough and Marlborough.

The only decent thing they ever had going for them was a decent bread pudding and an awesome location especially in the fall.

I must say that the food was horrendous!! As for the employees well they were fantastic with the exception of the mgr. Moussa who i as well as many others found to be highly unprofessional and disrespectful!!! My sympathies go out to all those who find themselves unemployed during these poor economic times

Well, the question becomes "What goes in now?" in my opinion.. That's really a beautiful location overlooking that section of Fort Meadow Pond. In the fall, when the colors hit the maples over by the grove, the reflections off the water can be downright stunning. I've always thought the Pic ought to put a dining pier out, if they were they a bit more upscale.. you know, down to the water (twenty feet or so) on a wooden deck, and have a handful of tables out there for all those nights when having a couple of drinks or a quiet dinner overlooking the lake would be awesome. If you consider the very minor cost of something like that.. and the fact the facility itself's worst attribute is that it could use a little sprucing up.. If the Pic's got to go, I can very easily see it being a GREAT location for something a bit more upscale (no offense to the Pic, they had good taps and free snacks. Must have been the free popcorn that put them under...)

Seems that management doesn't really care that much about people. The website has not been updated.

I would just like to say that the Marlborough PIc had a wonderful staff. There was no warning to this. We knew that our sister group had filed for chapter 11 last year but we thought that we would be fine. It had nothing to do with the managers or the staff it in fact was the owners not caring. I couldn't have worked with a better group of people. they welcomed me with open arms and we made it a family. As for everyone asking about the gift cards they bought I am truly sorry. You can call 617-720-2100 and maybe they can answer your questions. Everyone needs to remember that everyone that worked there has feelings also and it was very heart breaking for all of us.

By management I meant those that manage the website, which are the owners of the company, and clearly not the local management.

I think the real story here is the implication that they can file for Bankruptcy and then re-open the business. I, too, checked the website for some sort of notice about the closing but I wasn't surprised that there wasn't one. Were you really, Damon? However, if we want to get on the mngmt/ownership about something ... how about the fact that they plan to stiff their creditors and still hope "to serve us again in the future". I loved the fish and chips but I won't be patronizing a deadbeat ownership, that's for sure.

re: Paul, I concur about the site. We used to like to go the restaurant that was there before that... Keepers was it? It was nice to sit at the table on a fall or winter afternoon and enjoy the view.

Gross! We do NOT want an "all you can eat" buffet in Marlborough. Let's promote healthy eating, not gorging. Also, "alls" is not a word.

The location on Rt 20 in Sturbridge was great--excellent food, reasonable and great service and OH that fresh popcorn! A great place to relax after a long day at the Brimfield flea market. I've been going there for over 35 years. WHAT A SHAME!
