Piccadilly Pub Appears to be Gone for Good
The Marlborough and other Piccadilly Pub locations are up for lease.
Almost two months after the Piccadilly Pub on Bolton Street closed its doors without notice, the company that owns the property has issued a sign that the restaurant will not reopen.
Restaurant chain owner Elephant & Castle filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June of 2011, and the business that ran the nine Piccadilly Pub locations in Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Pub Group (MPG), reportedly owes the State of Massachusetts almost $460,000 in overdue meals taxes.
An attorney representing the pub property owners said they are actively looking to lease the properties to new clients.
"It's more likely it'll be some other concept," the attorney told the WBJ on Wednesday.
After closing abruptly during the first full week of February, management left a note taped to the main entrance of the Marlborough location thanking customers for their patronage of the restaurant, adding that they hope to serve the public again sometime soon. (see photo)
All Piccadilly Pub locations have closed including restaurants in Auburn, Worcester and Westborough.

With some renovations, I could see someone installing a high-end restaurant here, but Marlborough may be more in need of another family-friendly spot...

agreed. excellent spot for a high-end restaurant with the views of the lake. but doubtful this current economic climate could support something like that. it would be great to see something family-friendly there but most "family-friendly" places tend to serve terrible junk food that is cheap to produce. I would love to see something like a book store/giftware shop with a small cafe inside. retail in the "restaurant" portion of the current building and cafe in the "bar" section.

So thrilled! The Marlborough Piccadilly Pub was one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to in my life. I wish, hope, and pray whatever goes in there has good food, good atmosphere, and a tasteful, professional waitstaff.
What I would LIKE to go in there is a top quality Indian restaurant but it's doubtful if others agree with me. I don't want a TGI Fridays or Applebees, go to Framingham for that.

I remember it as Keeper's Two. I loved the atmosphere there. Of course, that was when I moved to Marlborough almost 25 years ago. The view of the reservoir in autumn is so calming. It could go high end restaurant or family style. I would love a local restauranter to take it over and NOT a chain.

As a former bartender at the Marlborough Pub, It was very sad to see it go. I worked there for 16 years and made a lot of friends and family along the way. But, I too do not want to see another chain there either. I do not think a upscale resteraunt would do well with this current economy. I think someone local would do much better.
" Real People" know what the people want not some corporation. With a little cosmetic work on the inside and a nice wrap around deck, it could be a very profitable buisness for someone. The location is just perfect.
