Officer Involved in Shooting on Leave
The police officer involved in the fatal shooting Monday night has been placed on paid administrative leave.
The officer involved in the shooting death of Bryce Coutinho has been placed on paid administrative leave.
“It’s standard. He is on paid administrative leave right now,” said Police Chief Mark Leonard.
The chief declined to comment on the department's ongoing internal investigation into the shooting, directing any questions to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office which is also investigating the shooting.
According to officials, at approximately 8 p.m. Monday Marlborough Police responded to 52 Meadow Brook Road for a domestic disturbance and to assist in the removal of an unwanted person from a residence.
Upon arrival, police were confronted by a man armed with a knife, according to officials. A Marlborough police officer discharged his weapon, according to the District Attorney's Office. The man that was shot was identified as Bryce Coutinho, 22, and pronounced dead at the scene.
Coutinho was set to face an assault and battery charge from a previous incident.

We haven't heard all of the details yet, but can't a taser subdue someone long enough to cuff him?

From what I've read of this case, it sounds like suicide by cop.

I totally agree with Joescarp. Sad situation for all involved.

A knife is a deadly weapon and if someone is coming at you you have to think fast and react immediately. It's not easy to hit a moving target or to aim to shoot an erratic, moving target in the leg or arm. The whole situation is beyond sad. I've also heard the same as Joescarp.

The Police officer should be given a medal of a job well done. As he was right in what he done and he also got rid of one less headace we dont need.

MPD are not trained and equipped to use tasers yet. They are currently training all officers but tasers can be just as lethal as a bullet. Also because not all of the facts are known; in cases of someone coming at you with a knife pepper spray may not deter them and they still may be able to reach you and injure or kill you.
