Name: Taylor Fearing
Graduating Class: 2012
Team: Marlborough Girls Varsity Outdoor Track
Fearing began doing track when the program had just started. She was in middle school at the time. “I was drawn to the throwing events partly because my dad was a thrower in high school and college,” said Fearing, “so I threw the discus and shot put. I'm pretty sure I still have the middle school discus record!”
"Unlike many other team sports offered in high school, track allows you to directly compare your performances and progress from meet to meet," Fearing said, "While track is still very much a team sport, the individual-centered events such as throwing helps you to track your improvement throughout the entire season easily."
Stats: Fearing’s personal record in the javelin throw is 110 ft, shot put 33 ft 8.5 in and the discus is 84 ft.
What’s next: “I am going to attend Brown University in the fall," said Fearing, "As of right now, I plan on majoring in biology.” She will not be on the track team, but is going to play varsity volleyball.
Highlight: “My proudest accomplishment from my high school track career was definitely qualifying for All-States in the javelin my junior year,” Fearing said. She was seeded 13th going into the district meet.
“Only the top four performers would move on to All-States," Fearing explained, “On my second to last throw in the finals, I threw 110-ft which was a new personal record and allowed me to place fourth. That throw got me pretty close to the school record, too!”
