The Kumon Math and Reading Center of Marlborough honored more than 150 students for their academic accomplishments in math and reading Saturday, Jan. 7 at the St. Matthias Church. Preschool to high school students received ribbons, medals and certificates in numerous categories including studying above grade level and completing Kumon’s math and reading program.
St. John High School 11th grader, Adi Panchamoorthy, of Marlborough was honored for completing the college level math course, and having already completed the reading program, is the first student of the Kumon of Marlborough to complete both subjects. Adi’s passion for learning new things motivated him to work through the entire math and reading curriculum.
Anchit Mehta, a senior at the Advanced Math and Science Academy, was recognized for completing the math program. “After completing a few levels in the Kumon program I found myself in the highest level math class at AMSA Charter School,” said Anchit.
Several parents also spoke at the ceremony about their family's experience in the program. Patricia Rose said, “Our son Cameron has been in Kumon for over a year, and is now exceeding in his math class. We are so proud of him for all of his hard work and he has come such a long way."
“Kumon students work hard each day, in addition to doing school work, they also study a half-hour in math or reading year-round and the award ceremony is an opportunity to recognize their diligence and achievements,” said Renuka Garg owner and director of Kumon of Marlborough. “My aim is to help students in the local community achieve their academic goals and develop a genuine interest in learning and become life-long learners.”
