Jake's Falafel Announces New Newton Centre Location

After closing up shop at Sandwich Works last month, Jake Shahrooz has found a new spot to serve his famous falafel.

When your falafel gets high praise from residents, local foodies and the state treasurer, your restaurant can't stay closed for long.

Less than a month after closing his small operation in Newton Centre, Jake Shahrooz has officially announced his new location for Jake's Falafel Corner: the former CJ's Deli & Pizza at 740A Beacon St.

Shahrooz, whose business had been set up a corner of Sandwich Works for the last year and a half, went before the Licensing Board of Commissioners Tuesday, Aug. 21 to apply for a transfer of the license from CJ's Deli & Pizza to Jake's Falafel Corner. According to Shahrooz, everything passed without opposition.

Now that the city has approved the license and the property transfer is in motion, Shahrooz told Newton Patch he is already hard at work getting the new restaurant ready. A soft opening is currently planned for Monday, Sept. 10.

Although the new location will be bigger than his former spot in Sandwich Works, Shahrooz said he plans to keep the restaurant's name as Jake's Falafel Corner.

As he noted in a July interview with Newton Patch, Shahrooz closed up shop on August 11 to prepare for the move to a new location. At the time, though, he could only disclose to Newton Patch that the new restaurant would be somewhere in Newton Centre.

Shahrooz also said he plans to expand his menu from sandwiches and platters to entrees, for a more full-service restaurant.

I am sure you will fill the "Mid-Eastern" culinary gap left by Sabra. This is great news. I only wish I was still living across the street from your new location. But, then, Newtonville is not all that far awsy.

Jakes Falafel Corner is EXCELLENT. We go there once a week. Not only is the food excellent the owner is a delight. Always friendly and always accommodating, Jake has stolen our family's heart and our stomachs as the food is delectable. We recommend it highly.
