UPDATED: Icy Roads Cause Multiple Crashes, 495 Road Closure

Police are responding to a multitude of vehicle crashes Sunday.

Update: Scanner reports that there is a road closure at I-495 northbound at exit 25 A and B due to icy road conditions.

Original post:

Car crashes in Grafton and Marlborough are among some of the more serious on Sunday afternoon and evening due to icy conditions on the roadways.

Dave Procopio, spokesperson for the Massachusetts State Police, said information on these crashes will be forthcoming, as police are "flat out right now" responding to incidents.

"We have been responding to multiple crashes on Routes 2, 190, 290 and 495 in Central Massachusetts this afternoon," he said. "Most are spinouts caused by the slick and icy roads but there have been a couple more serious. Please urge motorists to use caution and go slow, if they need to drive at all."

Sidewalks and outdoor stairs in Framingham are icy in spots. I guess winter is here.

We were one car ahead on 495N just before Simarano drive, when the SUV slid across 3 lanes into the right side guardrail, along with a few others. I've been searching for a story or pictures of the aftermath, from what I could tell we were the only ones who stopped to call 911.

If anyone has any info on it, e-mail kevin@kurbsconsulting.com as we are still quite shaken up and wanted to know what ended up happening.
