The Marlborough High School boys’ varsity hockey team is joining the fight to end violence against women.
The team is participating in the White Ribbon campaign, and at Saturday’s game team members and coaches will have signed a White Ribbon pledge and will wear white in support of the campaign.
The White Ribbon campaign is a men’s initiative project of Jane Doe Inc., which works to secure funding, pass laws and change regulations, practices and policies to enhance sexual assault and domestic violence intervention and prevention services for victims and their children, and to hold perpetrators accountable. The coalition also engages in prevention efforts. The men’s initiative encourages men to get involved in prevention and education work through community organizing and collaborations with anti-violence programs.
At 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, the MHS hockey team will take to the ice at the New England Sports Center after having taken the following pledge: “From this day forward, I promise to be part of the solution in ending violence against women.” Signed pledge posters will be at the game, and men in attendance will be able to sign a pledge poster as well.
MHS Athletic Director Jeff Rudzinsky said he hopes to have white wristbands for the players and coaches to wear that day to show their commitment to the pledge.
