Firefighters Cut Down 6 Alarm Fire on West Main Street

The Marlborough Fire Department and five other area departments spent Monday morning battling a fire in a West Main Street condominium.

The Marlborough Fire Department, along with firefighters from a half-dozen other Metrowest communities spent Monday morning battling a large fire that threatened to consume much of a West Main Street condominium.

Sometime after 9 a.m. residents of 271 Main St. said they could hear a scream in the hallways telling everyone to get out of the building.

"I don't know what caused the fire, I just know that I had to rush to get some clothes on and get out of the building," said one resident.

After arriving on scene, firefighters entered the building with chainsaws to ventilate the fire and allow the use of fire hoses. Eventually the blaze broke through the ceiling of the building and fire crews unleashed multiple fire hoses on the blaze.

Fire officials were unavailable to comment as of this post due to the fact that the fire is an ongoing incident. At the time of this post, the fire command center set up across the street from the fire, ordered that all firefighters evacuate the building, due to extremely unsafe conditions.

Traffic surrounding the area of West Main Street at Williams Street was completely shut down Monday morning.

All power to the area was cut by National Grid around 11 a.m.

Framingham, Hudson, Southborough, Northborough, Wayland and Westborough fire departments all responded to the scene.

Suzanne, My daughter is stuck there in traffic and she talked to someone (firefighter?) who said everyone is ok. It's 3rd hand info but hopefully it's correct.

MW Daily News reported: "Police Chief Mark Leonard said all tenants made it out of the building safely. Firefighters rescued a dog from a unit, said a reporter."

I am a avid commentator on Marlborough patch. I reside in Building "B" and it seems everyone is ok. I have not been back to my building since 7am this morning but since my windows are open that there will be extensive smoke damage.I am not sure how far the fire spread into the other units and buiuldings but I couldnt bare to watch and went back to work after 2 hours. My heart goes out to the families who lost precious items, clothes, valuables...etc...If I hear of a donation center set up I will try to keep everyone posted.
