City Council Takes Stand on Brookview Village
The Marlborough City Council has voted on a list of concerns regarding the Brookview Village development.

The City Council voted Monday to send a message detailing concerns with the "Brookview Village" development to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
"I thought it would be good to send something to them to give them a flavor of the council," said Matt Elder who put forward the wording of the statement.
He explained that this was the mechanism that would allow the council to voice its opinion on the matter that is currently before the ZBA. The council has no direct vote on the development, said Elder.
Only councilors Kathleen Robey and Michael Ossing voted against the wording, which contends that the development will diminish value of area property and the apartments will have an extended response time from the fire department. The statement also contends that the city has worked hard to fill it's 40B percentage and that the area of the development is a prime commercial property.
The vote represents the latest development in what has become a hot-button issue for the city. Brookview Village would include 243 rental units on an 18.73 acre plot of land along Route 20 near Ames Street. The development would use land previously designated industrial for a residential purpose.

Isn't the traffic in this city bad enough now? No, you are going to add at least 400 cars to Rte. 20 trying to get to 495 every weekday morning, and right down the street from a shopping district that's too busy as it is now. When does the greedy developing-to-get-the-tax-money stop and no more spending start?

It seems that we have enough "affordable housing" i.e. 40B to meet our 10% requirement with ease. This development is nuts. We don't need more of it and we certainly don't need that additional traffic on a very busy area already. The city council needs to stick to the zoning. If its zoned industrial why is residential development there even being considered????????
