Nine new staff members at Assabet Valley have been going through the new teacher orientation program with Curriculum Director, Rob McCann, in anticipation of the start of the new school year.
Assabet assigns a mentor to each new staff member and has regular training and information sessions scheduled over their first two years at the tech school.
“We want to make sure that our newest members are quickly acclimated into the culture here at Assabet, are aware of all the resources at their disposal, and are ready to hit the ground running when the students arrive back to school," said McCann. "From the summer orientation to the monthly update meetings, the new faculty members are given every opportunity to work on their portfolio, and establish their professional teaching/licensing credentials if they don’t already have them, with the help and guidance of a veteran staff member. It’s a program that has been working very well for us, particularly with the number of retiring teachers we’ve had over the last few years."
This year’s newest members are as follows: Kim Stencel, Biotechnology program; Derek Tenzar, Music; Peter Collins, Social Studies; Mary Foley, Special Needs; Steve Pleau, Computer Programming and Web Development; April Kelly, Business Technology; Amy Sibert, Science; Sarah Brodeur, Math; and Kayla McNally, Special Needs.
