Alleged Thief Assaults Police Officer
A man allegedly assaulted a police officer after being caught stealing out of a car.
One police officer was allegedly assaulted Monday by a man who had been stealing items out of a parked car.
"They observed a male enter a vehicle and take items from a vehicle," said Detective Scott DeCiero of the Community Services Bureau of the Marlborough Police Department.
The police had been called to the apartment complex on East Main Street after a report of a breaking and entering into a vehicle in progress. The man they saw allegedly stealing from the car then entered an apartment.
Police went to the door, which was answered by a man later identified as Zander Filho, 20, of 19D Cook Lane. Police had gathered from witnesses that Filho had hidden some items in the bushes. Filho exited the apartment and went to the bushes with the police officers.

He then became angry, walking towards on police officer and pushing him in the chest. Police restrained Filho and he was arrested.
"He was yelling and resisint the entire time," said DeCiero.
The total amount of the items stolen from the vehicle were less than $250. Filho has not been indicated in other thefts in the area.
Filho was charged with breaking and entering into a vehicle at nighttime for a felony, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and larceny under $250.
