228 Assessments Contested in Marlborough

A total of 228 assessments have been contested in the city.

A total of 228 abatements have been filed with the city, signaling property owners do not agree with the assessed value of their property.

The abatements are currently being processed, according to officials from the Board of Assessor's Office. An abatement is filed when a property owner feels their property has been incorrectly assessed or otherwise overvalued.

The 228 abatements are broken down as follows:

  • 139 Residential
  • 89 Commercial

The properties on which abatements have been filed account for approximately 1.8 percent of the 12,900 real estate records in the city.

Another 20 Personal Property (which covers physical property within the building such as furniture) abatements have been filed. This accounts for 1.3 percent of the 1,552 business personal property accounts in the city.

All abatements were due Feb. 1 and the board of assessors has 90 days to render a decision on each.
